Haemorrhoid Surgery

What Is Haemorrhoid Surgery?

Haemorrhoids, also known as piles, are swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum or anus that can cause pain, bleeding, itching, and discomfort. While many cases can be managed with lifestyle changes and non-surgical treatments, haemorrhoid surgery may be necessary for severe, persistent, or prolapsed haemorrhoids. Our surgical team provides effective and compassionate care using the latest techniques to ensure symptom relief and a smooth recovery.

When is Surgery Needed?

Surgical intervention is typically recommended for:

  • Grade 3 or 4 haemorrhoids (prolapsed and not easily pushed back)
  • Persistent bleeding
  • Severe pain or discomfort
  • Thrombosed haemorrhoids (clot formation)
  • Failure of non-surgical treatments such as diet changes, topical creams, or rubber band ligation

Types of Haemorrhoid Surgery

  • Haemorrhoidectomy: Surgical removal of internal or external haemorrhoids under anaesthesia. This is the most effective long-term solution for large or recurrent haemorrhoids.
  • Stapled Haemorrhoidopexy (PPH): A minimally invasive procedure that repositions prolapsed haemorrhoids and cuts off their blood supply.
  • Doppler-Guided Haemorrhoidal Artery Ligation (HAL): A technique using ultrasound to locate and tie off haemorrhoidal arteries.
  • Laser or Radiofrequency Ablation: Offered in select cases for reduced post-op discomfort and quicker healing.
  • Banding (Rubber Band Ligation): for small and moderate internal haemorrhoids and can be done during colonoscopy.

Benefits of Haemorrhoid Surgery

  • Long-term relief from bleeding, pain, and prolapse
  • Improved bowel habits and comfort
  • Return to daily activities with minimal recurrence risk
  • Enhanced quality of life
